Jyri Vahvanen founded Battlelore with Miika Kokkola in 1999.
In the same year Battlelore's first promo "Warrior's Tale" was made at
Digibone Studios, Lappeenranta.

"Warrior's Tale" failed but the band didn't give up.
In the year 2000 Battlelore gave a second try and recorded "Dark fantasy"
-promo at Music Bros-Studios, Imatra, and made it with care.
The result was much better than in "Warrior's Tale" and people got
interested in the band.

Napalm Records asked Battlelore to make one more tape and
three more tracks were made very quickly. As a result Battlelore signed
a recording contract with Napalm Records.

In Autumn 2001 Battlelore went to Music Bros-Studios to record their
first album "...Where The Shadows Lie". After a long period of time, it
finally got finished in November 2001 and was released in February 2002.
