The Crumbsuckers was a New York based punk / thrash metal band that formed in 1982 on Long Island by bass player Gary Meskil in their home town of Baldwin. In the early days they were a party band and played covers from bands such as Minor Threat, Bad Brains and Kraut. They also had several different vocalists who probably took turns singing when it came to shows. In June 1983 the band recorded a demo called "The Crumbsucker Cave" at their rehearsal space with five songs, including a cover of Chubby Checker's "The Twist". The others songs were called "A-OK", "Emil Mauer (You Dick!)", "Kids In My School" and "Don't Like It". During 1983-1984 the songs for their debut album were written. In 1984 they also added Chuck Lenihan as a second guitarist for a more metal sound. The songs of "Life Of Dreams" were written by Gary Meskil and Dave Wynn.

In late 1984 the band recorded a second demo and started looking for a record deal. Included on the demo were "Just Sit There", "Shit's Creek", "Shot Down", "Interlude", "Trapped", "Brainwashed", "Live To Work" and "Prelude". Now their vocalist David Brady was fired, partly because he was doing drugs. He was replaced with Christ Notaro from another Long Island band called Crackdown. Very soon they got a record deal with Combat Records. They released their debut album in 1986 entitled "Life Of Dreams".

In the spring of 1987 guitarist Dave Wynn left the band and Matt Cardin replaced him. Matt didn't stay with the band for very long although he did write two songs called "Rejuvinate" and "Jimmy's Dream" which appeared on their second album. Matt was then replaced with Robert Koebler and in 1988 they released "Beast On My Back". In early 1988, after the release of the album, the former Carnivore member Marc Piovanetti replaced Koebler. In 1989 the band finally broke up according to Gary Meskil. The band was very popular in the New York / Long Island area and played all the major clubs such as L'amour's and Sundance.

After the break-up Gary Meskil formed a band called Heavy Rain in 1990. Some sources claim that this band played progressive metal similar to bands like Queensrÿche and Fates Warning but according to Gary Meskil it was more like old Soundgarden. Gary Meskil and his drummer Dan Richardson then disbanded Heavy Rain and formed Pro-Pain in 1991.
