Italian songwriter (born Davide Bernasconi, May 11, 1965, Monza) who achieved success singing in laghée or Occidental lombard, the local dialect of his region, the Como area. After a stint with the punk rock band Potage, in the early '90s he formed his own band , the De Sfroos. The band released three albums, Ciulandari, Viif, and Manicomi, and made a name for Bernasconi as the foremost exponent of contemporary Como song all over Italy, as well as in Switzerland. The band dissolved in 1996 and Bernasconi continued as a solo artist, using his former band name as his last name -- de sfroos means "smuggling" in lombard dialect, so his full name translates as "David goes a-smuggling." Throughout his career Bernasconi received two Tenco prizes, first in 1999 as best new artist, and then as best local artist in 2002. He is also a writer and has published two collections of poems and two novels, and his work has also been adapted for the theater. As of 2008, Bernasconi had released seven solo albums (including studio, live, EPs, and one DVD), most notably Brèva e Tivàn and ...E Semm Partii. His last outing, Pica!, reached number four on the Italian charts on the week of his release. ~ Mariano Prunes, All Music Guide
