"Friday on My Mind" was a terrific 1967 hit. The Aussies behind its cheerful thunder were the Easybeats' main men, Harry Vanda and George Young (brother of AC/DC's Angus and Malcolm). Never a great stateside success, and defunct by 1970, the Easybeats, on the strength of a crack rhythm section and consistently sharp songs, wear better than much British Invasion pop. Their late-'60s work sounds like the big-ballad Bee Gees. Which isn<#8217;t bad. Even there, however, an intriguing oddness peeks through. The Raven disc offers tough, punchy rarities; the generous Retroactive collection is for completists. (PAUL EVANS)
