George Morgan possessed a voice that was a sheer pleasure to hear. Opry personnel knew it and brought him on board in 1948. A year later he enjoyed his career hit on Columbia, “Candy Kisses,” one of Classic Country’s great #1 hits. That year George Morgan had four Top Ten records, and it appeared that George would be one of the great figures in Country music for many years to come. It didn’t happen that way. Though he had many chart records, few were major hits after the forties. Still, with the exception of three years in the late fifties when he was hosting a television show, George Morgan was a constant presence on the Grand Ole Opry until his death in 1975.
