From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:Career
She started her career in 1970s, but achieved a chart success in the 1980s working with the famous Stock Aitken Waterman team. Dean was elected three times as the <#8216;Best Live Performer<#8217; by the Federation of American Dance Clubs (U.S.), and twice as a <#8216;Best British Performer<#8217; by Club Mirror awards (UK).
Her biggest hits, were <#8220;Whatever I Do<#8221; (A track originally recorded by Michael Prince called Dance Your Love Away, re-written by Stock Aitken Waterman because Hazell disliked the chorus) and <#8220;Who<#8217;s Leaving Who<#8221; (a remake of the Anne Murray hit), both made number 4 in the UK Singles Chart in mid-late 1980s. She also recorded and had a moderate hit with <#8220;Turn It Into Love<#8221;; which was originally recorded by Kylie Minogue and included on her debut album, <#8220;Kylie<#8221;. A fan poll on Hazell<#8217;s Yahoo Messageboard for their favourite track of her<#8217;s was topped by <#8220;Maybe (We should call it a day) - the My Ami mix, which failed to chart. Hazell had a No1 single in South Africa with SAW produced They Say It<#8217;s Gonna Rain.
Carlton Records had Dean record an album of ABBA covers, however as well as a few big ABBA hits, the album included some more thoughtful choices from the ABBA back catalogue. Hazell<#8217;s The Winner Takes It All cover scraped the UK singles charts in the mid-90s.
Dean produced and wrote songs for Bad Boys Inc., Bona Riah (produced <#8220;House of Rising Sun<#8221;), Miquel Brown (produced <#8220;It<#8217;s a Sin<#8221;), MEN 2 B (co-wrote <#8220;Love Satisfaction<#8221;), Upside Down and Sandra Feva.
She participated twice in the BBC<#8217;s A Song for Europe contest. In 1976 she took fourth place with the cabaret ballad <#8220;I Couldn<#8217;t Live Without You For A Day<#8221;. 1984 saw Hazell in seventh place with another dramatic ballad, <#8220;Stay In My Life<#8221;. She also provided backing vocals for Samantha Janus in 1991<#8217;s Eurovision Song Contest.
