On Thorns I Lay was formed in Athens, Greece, in February 1992 under the name Phlebotomy. Under that name they recorded their first demo and ep before changing their name to On Thorns I Lay. The ep "Down Of Grief" was very successful and sold 2000 copies in just a few months. In May 94 they recorded a promotape called"Voluptuous" which led to a record deal with the French label Holy Records. The music of the band was at the very beginning pretty brutal death metal but they have over the years developed into a more atmospheric and varied metal band with both male and female vocals. The band has apparently relocated to Romania since a few years back.
