Quench biography

the authorised story...

Quench exploded onto the UK scene in April 2001 with their unique brand of uplifting, exhilarating and energising Alternative Pop/Rock. With a combination of loud guitars, infectious grooves and harmony-laden hook-lines, the boys were signed to ICC's Elevation label after their debut shows at the Spring Harvest Festival! Quench released their first EP in the summer 2001 to great acclaim and have brought their energetic live show all over the UK.

A not so long time ago in a galaxy not so far far away, Jamie, Andy, and original Quench guitarist Kev, had played together as members of folk/rock heroes, "WHY?" and enjoyed the success of gigs at the Birmingham NEC and The Albert Hall, and had a large European following before calling it a day in 2000. After a long sabbatical the boys regrouped with a fresh musical vision for a brand new sound with a hard-hitting message. With the recruitment of bass wonder-boy Ron Knights, Quench emerged like a rock phoenix rising from the flames of WHY?!

Summer 2002 - Quench took it up a gear and marked the occasion with the addition of brand new lead guitarist, Mark Cocks (of Ripcord and Psalmistry fame). Mark replaced original Quench six-stringer Kevin Sefton, bringing a new, intense guitar sound, and a huge Marshall stack! It was sad to see Kevin hang up his Strat, but he left on the best possible terms to pursue his sound engineering career and marry his sweetheart, and can still be spotted in the mosh pit at Quench gigs! To mark the change in line up the guys had a photo shoot with award winning Nashville based photographer Ben Pearson (Sixpence-None-The-Richer, The Newsboys, etc) who flew over from the USA to shoot them at the end of July.

Quench spent autumn 2002 writing and recording their debut album 'Afterglow' at Chapel Lane studios, Hereford and ICC studios, Eastbourne working with producers Trevor Michael and Dave Lynch. After many long days and sleepless nights the guys have produced a stunning album, which was released in March 2003 to popular acclaim.

With lots of interest from the US and Europe and an ever-developing sound and spiritual passion... the smart money's on Quench. Discover the world of Quench NOW - as POD's Sonny put it - "Run with the pack or get left behind!" Deal with it!
