From their explosion onto the Michigan metal scene in mid-2001, Summer Dying has been not only making waves and making an impression on the music scene in general, they’re changing the way venues, magazines, radio stations and promoters look at independent metal bands. With a take-charge and do-it-yourself attitude, Summer Dying sets their goals high and consistently surpasses them.
Summer Dying’s first performance was in front of 200+ metal fans at the 2001 Milwaukee Metalfest where they easily distributed over 500 copies of their three-song debut EP. Since then they have sold over 800 copies of their first cd Beyond the Darkness Within almost soley at shows, and have sold almost 900 copies of One Last Taste of Temptation—their follow-up full-length album—through live shows and distributors such as Very, Lumberjack, Century Media, and CD Baby. Their live shows are already numbering in the hundreds and they have opened locally for many national bands including Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, In Flames, Lacuna Coil, Soilwork, As I Lay Dying, Nevermore, Dimmu Borgir, and many more. They've already done two successful regional/national tours, gaining the respect of fans, promoters and venue owners alike; they were voted Best Unsigned Act of 2002 and, just recently, Best Unsigned Act of 2003 at the Online Metal Awards, Band of the Year (2003) by Powergroove Entertainment (Detroit) for their hard work, One Last Taste of Temptation is in rotation and charting at many college radio metal shows across the country; they’ve received a great deal of press including interviews in Pit Magazine (#44), Metal Rules!, Live 4 Metal, and tons of local press, and many positive reviews in Metal Maniacs, Metal Rules!, Midwest Metal and much more.
Throughout the spring, Summer Dying will be working on writing new material for a third album (to be recorded tenatively this fall) as well as maintaining their ever-hectic live show schedule, culminating with a national tour June 3 to June 20.
And Summer Dying has only just begun.
