"The Polyphonic Spree was born out of a natural progression of life. It was 'up for grabs,' so to speak, for anyone to begin. A point in time has come when song joins forces with spirit and celebrates life. The 23 piece choral symphonic pop band does exactly this with ease. Providing a sense of joy that leaves a person asking 'Where has this been?' The greatest part of The Polyphonic Spree is that it has only just begun"Formed in Dallas, Texas, on July 15th, 2000, The Polyphonic Spree are, in their own words, a 23-man and -woman "choral symphonic pop band". Formed around the musical vision of one man Tim DeLaughter, the group is constantly evolving and adding new members and contributors as the musical vision expands.
The first release from The Polyphonic Spree was the US LP, "The Beginning Stages Of", currently the focus of A < R gossip and soon to be confirmed for a UK release date. Prior to that, the first UK release will be the "Soldier Girl" EP on UK independent and proven source of much new talent, Fierce Panda on July 29th.
The Polyphonic Spree paid a short visit to these shores during the Meltdown Festival at the Royal Festival Hall. In the course of three shows (two at the RFH and a special last minute show at the Barfly), the 24 piece band garnered rave reviews from The Guardian, The Independent, The Evening Standard and the NME. With "Soldier Girl" now Jo Whiley's single of the week and a Steve Lamacq session confirmed The Polyphonic Spree are talking to record labels with a view to releasing "The Beginning Stages Of" in September of this year.
