Descriere As a band Young Life aims to pass on a positive musical message to the youth of today. Our songs focus on the positive ways in which young people can improve their lives, through love, music and sharing. We want to encouraging the youth of the world to use their skills and talent rise above all of the troubles that affect them, such as crime, unemployment, health and poverty.
In the future ‘Young Life’ aims to improve itself as a band through hard work and practice and will continue recording and performing both at home and abroad, shining a light on Vanuatu to make its people proud.
Biografie The ‘Young Life’ Band was first formed under the guidance of Robert Arno Rox on April the 28th 2008.
None of the founding members of the band owned their own instruments and so they became members of the ‘Wan Smol Bag’ ‘Yut Senta’ in Port Vila, which allowed them access once a week to its band room and instruments.
Initially the band focused on playing covers of their favourite artist, the South African born “Lucky Dube”, but soon Arno and fellow member Nellie were writing originals of their own and beginning to develop the unique Young Life sound with tunes such as ‘Aim’ and ‘Music is Love’.
In 2008 Young Life took part in the “Wan Smol Reggae Naet” competition, winning first prize and gaining coveted spots in the “Fete de la Musick” and “Fest Napuan” festivals. In 2009 the band again took part in Fete de la Musick and also performed at “Zion Fest” and Vanuatu’s Independence celebrations. Over the course of these shows the band worked to expand its original repertoire and began including a diverse range of styles, infusing ragga and rock into its reggae beats.
In 2010 Young Life came of age, storming the stage at Fest Napuan and the 30th Independence celebrations and again winning the Wan Smol Reggae Naet competition, giving it the reputation as one of the leading young bands in Vanuatu. This same year also saw the band’s song ‘Crime and Unemployment’ winning a place on the ABC Pacific Break Compilation disc, leading to interviews and appearances on ABC Australia and TBV.

The end of 2010 saw Young Life rocking the Taleva Wia festival and coming through with yet another win in the highly contested “Reggae Faea” competition at Port Vila’s annual Christmas in the park celebrations.
By the beginning of 2011 Young Life was ready to go into the recording studio and record its first album. This album, to be released in late June 2011 to coincide with Independence, will feature 9 original songs and will bear the title “Love One-another “.
On the 1st of April 2011, the band scored its biggest success to date and a first for Vanuatu, becoming the first band in the Pacific/Australasia region to win the ‘Fair Play Anti-Corruption Youth Voices’ competition, beating 113 other bands from 30 different countries with their music video ‘Corruption (Give Us Equal Rights Today)’.

This win gave Young Life its first taste of international recognition with a tour to Nairobi, Kenya, culminating in a show at the Sarakasi Dome with one of Kenya’s top bands ‘Sauti Sol’.
The tour is to be filmed in a one hour long documentary, showcasing the origins of the band, its growth leading to the tour and its reaction as it reacts with the culture and music of Africa.
