The Canadian Country Music Awards showcased some of Canada's biggest stars on Sunday night, and the brightest to shine was Alberta's own Gord Bamford.
Of the eight awards handed out at this year's telecast, a hat trick was presented 2010 Humanitarian Award recipient Gord Bamford (Album of the Year, CMT Video of the Year and Male Artist of the Year). Also recognized on-air for his country music accomplishments was Johnny Reid, with the awards for Single of the Year and the coveted Fans' Choice. The Fans' Choice Award was presented by Ultimate Fan contest winner Terry Swift.
Canada's roots heroes Blue Rodeo kicked off the show with their performance of Never Look Back and they were followed throughout the evening by performances from 17 other artists – the most ever on the CCMA stage.
Throughout the evening, awards were presented to last night's Songwriter of the Year (along with Johnny Reid and Tia Sillers for Dance with Me) winner Victoria Banks for Female Artist of the Year and Manitoba's Doc Walker was presented with the CCMA awards for Group or Duo of the Year for the fourth time.
Fans were also treated with a star-studded line-up of presenters including Crystal Shawanda and Jessie Farrell, Hey Romeo, Shane Yellowbird and Jason Blaine, four Olympic stars Jamie Sale and David Pelletier, Kevin Martin, Shannon Szabados with hockey legends Grant Fuhr and Wayne Gretzky adding their sentiments to the affair. Performances by Rising Star nominees Jaydee Bixby, Chad Brownlee, High Valley, One More Girl and Marlee Scott helped set Rexall Place light up the skies.
Edmonton’s Corb Lund, this year’s seven-time Roots Artist or Group of the Year award winner, closed out this year’s CCMA awards with his very fitting performance of This Is My Prairie.
