2012 Essence Black Women in Music honors Kelly Rowland in a special ceremony

Former member of Destiny's Child and 'The X factor (UK)' judge is set to be honored during the upcoming 3rd annual Essence Black Women in Music, event which will be held at 2012 Grammy week. Her ceremony will take take on February 8, 2012 in Los Angeles, where Kelly will also perform.

The Essence editor-in-chief, Constance C.R. White praised the singer: "We've watched Kelly Rowland for over a decade grow from a teenage sensation into an international superstar," she said. "Her talent, drive and remarkable creative force show what it truly means to be a young powerhouse in an ever-changing industry."

She later gushed about Kelly naming her the 'soul' of young Black women: "Kelly embodies the 'soul' of young Black women through her music and we are proud to salute her dynamic contributions."

Beside Kelly, the Grammy-winning artist Eve is also set to perform as a special guest, but the first female solo rapper nominated for Grammy DJ MC Lyte will be performing.

Previous Essence Black Women in Music events have saluted Janelle Monae and Mary J. Blige. This year's event is being sponsored by Lincoln and My Black Is Beautiful. Additional details, including venue, will be announced shortly.
