While she has previously worked with Major Lazer and Flo Rida, but also wrote lyrics for artists such as Jennifer Lopez, Mary J. Blige, and Estelle, Wynter Gordon is now preparing music for herself.
She recently debuted her EP Doleo earlier this week, and today July 13th the singer-songwriter has premiered the music video for the lead single "Stimela". The video opens with a shot of Gordon in a sheer, tiger-themed robe. The entire clip features heavy tribal undertones and is directed by the artist herself. The big-haired beauty appears in various outfits throughout the video which has numerous lighting switches and even a white tiger, while she delivers the powerful vocals.
"I wanted it to be an emotional visual art piece, displaying humans as free, powerful animals," she says about the video. "We are all running from something or searching for something; our instincts have been ignored. This is me finally listening to them. This is to finally listening."
Actually, "Stimela" was inspired by a Hugh Masekala song of the same title, and in case you could not understood the chorus it's because she sings it in Zulu and loosely translates to, "ride the train to freedom."
Meanwhile, Doleo means pain in Latin and is the first in a series of four-part project called "The Human Condition." Reportedly, each EP will explore a different emotion according to the singer. She speaks to Billboard about the EP series, "I didn't feel like I was singing everything I wanted to sing, doing dance music and pop music. I wanted to make something that felt real to me. These EPs include every genre of music I like. I really just felt like I had to by myself."
The mini album was released on July 9 on the singer's website. Check out Wynter's new video clip below.
