| THE singular mind of Tori Amos actually consists of many parts. On her ninth studio album, the singer-songwriter gives voice (and name and affect) to some of them, aiming to inspire all women to reclaim their whole selves rather than be limited to the roles (wife, mother, sexpot, etc.) that patriarchy has imposed for, well, forever. | It's ninth-album time and Amos is about as fashionable as carbohydrates these days, but she remains one of the most ambitious conceptual songwriters on a major label. There are five Toris on the cover - warrior Tori, hippy Tori, voodoo Tori clutching rooster - each of whom symbolises a facet of womanhood. | The veteran singer-song-writer’s new record is credited to five of her alter egos (they all have different wigs too). Though this sounds predictably kooky, in fact this dense, overlong album will fascinate the committed without alienating casual listeners.
