Client’s Heartland is an album that exists in the same electropop universe as Goldfrapp and Annie, as well as 80s bands like New Order and Pet Shop Boys. I love this kind of music, and as a result, I really enjoyed this album, but it’s not the kind of work that transcends the genre. If you like slick, icy electropop, this is a great album to check out, thoroughly enjoyable, but not quite making it to transcendent....full text |

| New Wave. Either you're too young to know anything about it or you're old enough that you're embarrassed to have listened to it (even though your Tears for Fears CD's still see some use every so often). For those who remember when New Wave was the hot new sound and wish it still was (or who are nostalgia junkies who didn't live through the movement), Client is right up your alley. Heartland is the third CD from the retro-minded all-female trio, and their first on Metropolis Records, after two prior releases from Toast Hawaii, former Depeche Mode keyboardist Andy Fletcher's label....full text |

| Heartland's strength is its ability to negotiate the tightrope of pretension and self-awareness without falling off immediately. To feature an Adam & the Ants track about ripping off other songs on an album so indebted to older groups and not be washed away in a sea of faux-irony is a quite a feat, and one the album just about manages to pull off....full text |
