KISSAWAY TRAIL - Kissaway Trail Review

I have never once lain on my back in a field of corn, avec lover, hand in hand, the tall golden stalks distorting the piercing afternoon sunlight, a warm breeze bringing slow life to everything around me, the world beyond unfolding like a cinefilm movie, just out of reach. But it would be lush, that, wouldn’t it. There are obvious nods to the Beach Boys, the Flaming Lips and the euphoria of Arcade Fire, but the influences are filtered through the band's fresh, fighting spirit. Whether by design or accident, Soul Assassins recalls Keane, albeit strapped to Sonic Youth’s ebb-and-flow guitars. It takes glorious melodies to compete with these comparisons, but this debut has them in spades, from the Beach Boys-go-shoegazing La La Song to the piano ballad Bleeding Hearts. ...full text
