Despite a dismal major-label run and countless lineup shake-ups in nine years, these Florida noisecore vets have rebounded to make the album of their career. Now down to three of their previous five members, PTW distill the commercial-leaning, Deftones-like atmospherics of 2003's You Come Before You into a dissonant, acidic wash of sound with an emotional range that fluctuates between angry and blood-boiling. | Poison The Well has been MIA for a while. Nearly 4 years, to be precise. After releasing a string of fine metalcore albums from 1998 to 2002 (one on GoodLife, the other 2 on Trustkill), the Miami, FL, band was signed by Atlantic Records. The band released You Come Before You, which had moderate success (it has sold 130k copies to date). This past summer though, PTW parted ways with the label, citing “creative differences” as the source for the breakup. The following November, the band signed to the powerhouse independent label, Ferret Records. Finally, this April, Poison The Well unveiled Versions to the general public....full text |

| Here in the present, post-Deadguy era of heavy music it's fair to say 'metalcore' has a bit of an ugly connotation. Swedish metal riffs, breakdowns, and tough guy posturing are traits run through the ringer, but seemingly in response to such lazy rehashing, bands that arguably derive from that genre are finally taking chances and producing impressive, ambitious albums....full text |
