 In the music business, having a relative with established success is a sure-fire way for a musician to garner an immediate buzz. This is certainly the case for The Veils' frontman Finn Andrews, whose father Barry was a founding member of the highly touted group XTC, but it should also be noted that a certain amount of skepticism is also inherent with the promise of pedigreed* sons, as the cynic will always second-guess the legitimacy and worthiness of such attention. | Shortly after the Veils' acclaimed 2004 debut The Runaway Found, their leader, Finn Andrews, broke up the band and decamped to Los Angeles to start over. Nux Vomica suggests his radical gesture wasn't wasted. This is a refreshingly passionate record: Andrews rages with a Herculean intensity. | The Veils, a group of Kiwis based in London, finally get a release for their wonderful second album, Nux Vomica, in the U.S. through Rough Trade. The album was released in the UK last year -– if you were technologically savvy you might have heard the first single, “Advice for Young Mothers to Be”, on a few UK-based blogs around September.
