Everybody knows what the music industry really needs right now and that is a new Gomez. Of course, given the current musical climate the act capable of this feat has to come from Sheffield, doesn’t it? The Tiny Dancers have it all; the summery nature, carefree accompaniments that incorporates a little ska kick and that slightly laboured, but upbeat vocal thrust, provided by the ebullient David Kay. ’20 to 9’ introduces this quaint quintet through a jungle drum-beat intro, before using the above-mentioned elements to hide dark feelings and a slightly sinister outlook on love that the lyrics expose. ...full text |

| Smart guitar pop hasn't been seen round these parts for many a moon. Tiny Dancers arrive right on time with an album bursting with summery harmony-laden songs in a sea of 'jolly gone gloomy' bands failing to live up to expectations with their second albums and '80s groups reforming being seen as wonderfully post-modern instead of cynical cash-guzzling. | Named after the mawkish Elton John tune, this Yorkshire quintet are anything but abrasive. Their country-tinged indie rock is presumably aimed at the same audience that lapped up Magic Numbers. But likeable and catchy tunes such as Hemsworth Hallway, Sun Goes Down and Hannah We Know are so reminiscent of the Seventies strummers Smokie that you half-expect to hear Chubby Brown yelling “Alice! Alice! Who the f*** is Alice?”...full text |
