Sophomore attempts are a bitch, for lack of a better term. Bands face one of two daunting tasks: either to recreate or rework an image and sound made by your poor first release or they have to basically outdo themselves because of an outstanding debut album. Of course, there are other tasks not nearly as daunting, such as just continuing on the beaten trail. Bands like the Matches had to drastically improve things while bands like Bloc Party and the Arcade Fire had to prove that they weren't out of steam with just one album under their sleeves....full text |

| There can be a great deal of expectations for a sophomore record - especially when a lot of people questioned if said record would ever even come to fruition. Luckily for fans, Circa Survive is indeed the “real deal” and not just some one-off creative sidebar for prolific frontman Anthony Green. So, riding the wave of success from the well-received Juturna, and an exhaustive tour schedule, the band is back with the hotly-anticipated On Letting Go to show just where they have been the past two years and what they have brought back with them....full text |

| Circa Survive are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo fucking boring. There really aren’t two ways to put it; they take the most boring aspects of dredg, The Mars Volta, and occasionally Cave In and turn them into albums. Juturna was saved by a few standout tracks, but On Letting Go is lacking songs with a punch in addition to all of its other common faults....full text |
