 There's an old saying that fits Fridge perfectly, something along the lines of If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.
If that old adage is true (which it must be, God said it in Futurama), then UK instrumental trio Fridge have without a doubt done things right on their first album in six years, The Sun. The proof that they have done something is material - there's an album sitting right here in front of me - but the release's 52 minutes of experimental beauty drifts through the air so freely and naturally, it is as though Fridge's sounds are not trapped in a disc of polycarbonate, aluminum and acrylic lacquer at all, but rather embedded in the sub-conscious and intertwined with the atmosphere, like they've always been there, existing for no other reason than to make the world around us sound better. ...full text |

| Maybe I’m alone on this, but I find London-based Fridge and the trio’s individual one-offs remarkably sleep-inducing. Something about Fridge, Kieran Hebden’s Four Tet project, and Adem Ilhan’s acoustic records (released under his first name) just makes me nod off. But it’s not a bad thing — really. Four Tet’s Rounds and Adem’s Love and Other Planets are both lovely records, and their “main” gig, Fridge, follows suit with a comeback album of sorts, The Sun, their first since 2001’s Happiness....full text |

| After a six-year hiatus, Fridge is back sounding very much like Fridge. Which is to say, they continue to embody an eclecticism compounded not of styles, but of sounds. The trio, which formed in London in 1996, is comprised of Kieran Hebden (Four Tet), Adem Ilhan (Adem) and Sam Jeffers. They make music, primarily instrumental, which has been described as post-rock, though in truth they seem adept at fusing the shrapnel and sublimity of any number of musical traditions....full text |
