Having surfed in on 2001’s garage-rock wave, The Hives have managed to hang tough at the top level. For their fourth album, they’ve astutely initiated an upgrade, hiring in their first big-cheese producer – in fact, several of them, including Jacknife Lee, and the crown prince of bling, Pharrell Williams. A few tracks, including Try It Again and the Pharrell match-up, T.H.E.H.I.V.E.S., see them hitting on a super “now”, robo-disco, glitterball vibe.
