The first time Yahoo! had the privilege of seeing British Sea Power live, in 2003, the scene of David Niven crashing his Wellington Bomber into the sea in Powell and Pressburger's 1946 metaphysical classic "A Matter Of Life And Death" was projected in full onto the back of the stage. Then as an air-raid siren was cranked into life, the band emerged in uniforms of netting and tin helmets. The gig ended chaotically with a man in a bear suit dancing on-stage and people holding taxidermied birds aloft while marching through a rabid crowd all waving tree branches....full text

Having beckoned all in with a question as banal as it is brilliant, the muscular tide of ‘All In It’ ushers us back into the skewed world British Sea Power inhabit, and ‘No Lucifer’ rears up, all brawn and gusto. Cries to “give me the dummy, tit” are surrounded by familiar chants of “easy!”, a tribute to years of Shirley Crabtree Jr’s flailing fists and the grappling wrestling prowess of family favourite Big Daddy and his belly-gutted conquests.

But, away from the belligerent knuckles that The Decline of British Sea Power waved around so haphazardly, with bloodied lip and winded gut Do You Like Rock Music?’s heavy hands are a guileful flurry of throws rather than one solid blow, recklessly flitting between the delicate, retiring grace of Open Season and their rabid 2003 debut....full text

Fans can rest easy. British Sea Power haven't decamped from the moors or the coastlines to make a bid for the centre of the dial on our FM radios or to accompany our morning lattes. Indeed it seems the title of their third album may be taking the ‘rock' in question to refer to the one of our inhabitance, third in line from the Sun.

That's not to say their music doesn't rock at times, for signs of change are indeed afoot. The band throw caution to the wind, releasing the heavy artillery after the false start of All In It to suddenly crash in with a full band tutti, hitting the listener like a force eight gale. Having grabbed us by the throat, the band keep a tight grip on the jugular for the next three songs....full text
