| Look up the word "juggernaut" in the dictionary and you may just find Dragonforce's photo alongside the definition. Not only does it aptly describe the nature of their hyperkinetic "extreme power metal," but also their vertiginous ascent from utter music community obscurity to new media, errr...juggernaut, when their breakthrough single, "Through the Fire and Flames," became first a YouTube sensation and later a keystone of the Guitar Hero video game phenomenon. | It would be easy to assume that DragonForce plunges headlong into "Ultra Beatdown" because the tipping point for another U.S. breakthrough is nigh. But those in the know can attest DF is merely coming into its own after years on the touring circuit. "Heroes of Our Time" stokes the desire to stand up and cheer with fists pumped high, and after fueling the passion with "The Fire Still Burns," the band eases up on the light-speed riffing to keep from falling into a linear quagmire. "Reasons to Live" heralds death-metal guitars before halting for a Queen-style breakdown, and more nuanced melodic phrasings mark "Heartbreak Armageddon."...full text |

| Picking up where 06’s fantastic Inhuman Rampage left off, the band actually seems intent on upping the ante in terms of speed, over-the-top guitar solos and vocal arrangements that would give Andrew Lloyd Webber a run for his money. Instead of relying on guitar virtuosity and catchy melodies, they experiment with variations in tempo and song structure that ultimately add to the theatricality and near-symphonic hugeness inherent in their sound, while also throwing in some unexpectedly heavier moments. ...full text |
