 Mainstream jazz is an unchanging form that turns away from the past half-century in favour of tunes and pleasure.
That this recording of Gershwin songs is so enjoyable is partly due to the players: Coe on clarinet/sax, Presencer on flugelhorn, pianist Brian Lemon and bassist Dave Green have all done time as spiky modernists, enabling them to treasure these tranquil surfaces.
