The Presets - Apocalypso reviewWELCOME to the world of Apocalypso. When a pre-released copy of The Presets highly anticipated album landed on my desk, I couldn't wait to give it a spin.

If you haven't heard their smash hit My People, which annihilated the club charts, you must have been living on Mars.

One could only dream at what was to come next from the Sydney based boys who've been thrilling and killing music festivals across the globe.

You can tell that This Boy's In Love was chosen as their next single for a reason ... it's a monster tune that demands to be cranked, belted and blared from the speakers. A thumping beat contrasted with lighter high-pitched piano notes makes this track a dancefloor filler....full text

After the runaway success of 2005’s "Beams",The Presets are back with "Apocalypso", serving up more goosebump-inducing electro magic. All I’ll say is this: tie your shit down, because you’re going to lose it very promptly if you don’t.

Kicking and Screaming opens the album with that familiar crisp, snarling snare, and as the intro steadily builds, you’ll start to wish you’d heeded my warning about 'securing your shit'.

Julian’s first line pierces the air, “When I was young…” and you’ll find it very hard not to crack the same satisfied smirk that I did: “They’re fucking back!”

As Kicking and Screaming comes to a close, you’ll be saturated with sweat and gasping for breath after busting out your best moves all over your bedroom/train carriage. You probably think you need to rest a minute, but The Presets ain’t gonna let you. Make way for My People.

Hit single My People poses a structural threat to any venue that plays it. If you need proof, just venture out to any discotheque and watch the boys and girls veritably lose their minds when it’s played; jumping up and down with such vigour, you’d swear they were on something....full text

Some five years ago, relatively unknown Sydney outfit The Presets – comprised of Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes – were exactly that: relatively unknown. No mocking anybody’s ego there. That being said, theirs was a star that was definitely rising. Signed to Australia’s Modular Recordings, and it would only be a matter of time before tunes like Down Down Down, Are You The One? and the beautiful Girl And The Sea became regulars at festivals, here and abroad. The Presets had arrived, and as they belted out monster tune after another at those festivals, they listened. They noted. And they began writing an album. Apocalypso is what they came up with. Much like the last few years have been quite a journey for the lads, so is this also; and it’s one hell of a ride indeed.

Kicking things off with what sounded to me like – wait for it – The Killers meets Justice , Kicking and Screaming has you heading straight for the dancefloor. With just a bit of cheekiness to it, you can’t help but want to move to it: hell, I can barely keep still as I write this. That said, nothing goes for the dancefloor jugular more than the first single from the album My People, and it’s one that’s sure to be a big festival hit in the European Summer, especially if the response at the recent V Festival is anything to go by. Chunky, hard, solid beats, with plenty of throw your hands up in the air and ‘scream your ass off’ kind of vocals. Awesome....full text
