yeah yeah yeahs - Zero
Billboard
For their third full-length studio album, "It's Blitz!," New York's Yeah Yeah Yeahs found inspiration in unlikely places: the disco dancefloors of the '70s. The lead single, "Zero," takes its cue from Donna Summer's "I Feel Love," a pulsating, hypnotic bundle of sexual energy that popularized the synthesized backing track. With emphasis on keyboards instead of guitars, Karen O, Nick Zinner and Brian Chase bring an irrepressible excitement to the track that alternative radio programmers are embracing. TV on the Radio's David Andrew Sitek and Nick Launay—the producer behind the intense, richly textured songs on the group's EP "Is Is"—expertly guide the band's new synth-heavy direction without losing the eccentric charm that made it an indie rock favorite.—Alexandra Cahill...full text

Possibly the most remarkable aspect of Yeah Yeah Yeah’s new single “Zero” is how natural it sounds, especially when you consider that this is supposedly the band’s (as one press release put it) “all-new & more experimental sound.” As the song plummets deeper and deeper into a sonic disco, it becomes increasingly difficult to believe that this is the same band that once peeled a layer of skin off of us with the line “Boy you’re just a stupid bitch and girl you’re just a no good dick.” It could be that “Zero” is a step towards completing some sort of metamorphosis for the once jagged Karen O, but if the song is any indication of what we’re in for with It’s Blitz!, we’re going to hear a lot of polished synth accompanying her glossy vocals. Add to that collaborations with TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe and Kyp Malone, as well as the Bird and the Bee’s Greg Kurstin… I’m lead to believe that maybe the band should have been working with this “all-new & more experimental sound” years ago....full text

t's time for my first video review! (I decided I would talk about sports afterwards, UFC 96 picks and NHL trade deadline thoughts after the track review). Because IMEEM is being a fucking prick to me right now (not letting me stream the song nor use the embed code for the track - which defies the very purpose of the service. I shall lead you to where you can find the two tracks: Find Heads Will Roll at Bee Charmer and Zero at How Marvellous...full text
