UGK - UGK 4 Life

Back from the dead!" crows Pimp C in the opening moments of the sixth studio album by these Texas crack–rap pioneers. It's an eerie moment — Pimp C was found dead in an L.A. hotel in December 2007 — but thankfully, Pimp's surviving partner, Bun B, doesn't wallow in the macabre. Instead, we get UGK basics: songs about drugs, sex and flossing, flavored with thudding, no–nonsense beats. Cuts like the sulfurous "Da Game Been Good to Me" remind us what rap lost with Pimp C's death: one of its most musical and melodic MCs, with a thick drawl and a knack for wildly elongating words — stuffing seven or eight extra syllables into phrases like, well, "back from the dead."...full text

The first single "Da Game Been Good to Me" was released onto the Internet on January 16, 2009. It was made available on iTunes on February 20, 2009.[5] Bun B stated he recorded a song dedicated to his late partner Pimp C. Bun B stated a possible song titled "Marvin" titled after the Marvin Gaye sample used.

Bun B stated that he would not experiment with new collaborations or producers.

“ This album is not about who I wanna work with and what kind of beats I wanna do, this album is about what the people wanna hear, and that’s Bun and Pimp. And I wanna try to give that to them in the most purest sense." ”

In addition to Pimp C, production will come from producers such as Mannie Fresh, Akon, Cory Mo, Steve Below and DJ B-Do. Confirmed collaborators include Ronald Isley, Big Gipp, Webbie, and Too $hort.

Though his lifelong partner Pimp C passed away over a year ago in December 2007, rapper Bun B is staying busy as ever. Coming on the heels of his 2008 solo album II Trill, Ugk for Life caps an illustrious career in Southern rap that spanned 2o years and defined the Houston scene. The childhood friends who make up UGK or Underground Kingz came together in Port Arthur, Texas in 1987.
