In 2003, The Distillers exploded onto the music scene, stunning fans and critics alike with their third album, Coral Fang. It would be the biggest album for The Distillers- and unfortunately for the growing fanbase, their last. The band broke up officially in 2006, shattering dreams for a long-awaited follow-up to Coral Fang.Brody Dalle, the former frontwoman for The Distillers, made it clear that though The Distillers may be defunct, she would be returning to the music scene. Fans finally saw a break in the horizon when Dalle's long-awaited project Spinnerette recently released their digital-only EP, a four-song teaser for the full-length that is slated (theoretically) for release later this year. The Distillers Version 2.0? Despite the fact that Spinnerette includes former members of The Distillers, including the enigmatic frontwoman Dalle, Spinnerette's EP does not sound like any song that one would have found on Coral Fang, nor either of their previous albums....full text |

| Oh boy. This makes me VERY HAPPY INDEED. For I am among the vast number that have sorely missed Brody Dalle’s dirty purr since The Distillers fell off the face of the earth. With a slick new hair do and a newfound ability to keep her mascara on her eyelashes, Brody’s sound has followed suit. With the likes of Adam Freeland queuing up to put the remix gloves on, the sound of Spinnerette is Brody gone glossy and grown up. That said, though, Brody most certainly hasn’t lost her edge. | Brody Dalle is back. Perhaps better known as the front woman of The Distillers or the mother of Josh Homme's child, far from getting all motherly and mellowing, Brody's new guise Spinnerette is anything but middle-of-the-baby-food-aisle ‘mature’ acoustic blah-rock. There's just as much energy spiralling from ‘Valium Nights’ as there was on the whole Coral Fang album from five years ago! Whereas The Distillers wanted to show you how hard they were, Spinnerette is a much more relaxed and seductive affair. She's still got bruised knuckles but Brody now knows which punches to pull. Title track ‘Ghetto Love’ for example, has a big rolling bassline with scratchy guitars snapping at its ankles. Dalle’s vocal delivery is less chaotic than you'd expect but as the track ends with a series of shrieks you still know who you’re listening to....full text |
