It sounds like a guitar-rock Rotisserie-league team — Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne, Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick and James Iha of Smashing Pumpkins forming a band fronted by Taylor Hanson — but Tinted Windows actually exist. Packed with straightforward, girl-crazy power pop, the band's debut isn't quite as intriguing as you'd like. Hanson's nice-guy come-ons are effective but don't have a lot of personality. And though the songs recall the Fountains' smart, well-crafted material, they lack that band's detailed lyrics (typical line: "All I really want to say/Is I need you every day"). But these likable tunes usually hit their modest marks — the terrific Big Star rip "Nothing to Me" is prime road-trip material....full text |

| The lineup of this B-list supergroup isn't as odd as it initially might seem: Fountains of Wayne's Adam Schlesinger and ex–Smashing Pumpkin James Iha co-own Scratchie Records, and Schlesinger's background writing songs for the Jonas Brothers and That Thing You Do! surely prepared him for a collabo with the cute one from Hanson. (As for Cheap Trick drummer Bun E. Carlos' participation -- hey, mustache wax doesn't grow on trees.) Tinted Windows' debut is even less left-field; these hook-crammed power-pop jams are safe and bouncy enough for Jo Bros fans and Stacy's mom alike....full text |

| For decades, fans of melodically overendowed acts like Big Star, Dwight Twilley, and Fountains of Wayne were bewildered by the failure of post-Beatles power pop to conquer the world. Then, all of a sudden, it did — but it was Disney-generation rockers bringing that sound back, not graying new- wavers. (Don't believe me? You must've missed Meet Miley Cyrus.) Just as improbably, here are relatively grizzled members of Hanson, Cheap Trick, Smashing Pumpkins, and, yes, Fountains of Wayne, ready to capitalize on the tween-pop craze as a supergroup called Tinted Windows.
