The backlash against indie acts from Canada can’t be far off, if it’s not upon us already. Don’t turn your back until you give Constantines a chance.
Not exactly brand new – the act’s critically adored debut, Shine a Light came out in 2001 – but somehow lost in the recent mass marketing of Canuck talent, Constantines come with a hearty Clash-meets-Springsteen vibe that has grown into its own since that first LP. Where Shine is something of a lightning-in-a-bottle blast of urgent punk rock that’s undeniable, Tournament of Hearts is a more nuanced, finessed record.
