Montreal’s Tiga seems best known here for his DJ skills and stellar remixes, but Ciao! is actually his second studio album. For some reason the U.S. mostly slept on 2006’s Sexor, even in spite of its tracks like “You Gonna Want Me” and “Good as Gold” becoming classic dance tunes. Like his debut, Ciao! is worth noting: His second effort may just be the best dance full-length of the year.Once again, Tiga teamed with Soulwax’s Steph and Dave Dewaele for much of the production duties, with additional collaboration with the likes of Jesper Dahlback, Jori Hulkkonen, Gonzales, and LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy. And it shows: Ciao! is both dance-floor-ready (though there’s already an abundance of pretty sweet remixes of album tracks floating around out there) and listener-friendly. It's a bit more playful and pop than its predecessor, but it retains Tiga’s signature finely tuned electrohouse sensibilities....full text |

| Making music has always been a fun enterprise for Tiga, and three years ago he managed to harness his wicked sense of humour with an uncommon sensibility for making people dance. The result: Sexor, a big hit with clubbers, whether staying in or going out. Ciao!, despite its cheery title, presents a darker side in places, yet the fundamental elements of Tiga's style remain - and continue to impress. On one side you've got the earth shaking beats of Mind Dimension, while on the other the more introspective views presented in a song like Luxury. There'll be a lot of 'pleasure from the bass' on this album, to quote a previous song title. Mind Dimension drills into the depths early on, the simple line brilliantly effective, while Overtime uses a bass so low it'll pass underneath the capabilities of many a speaker system. What You Need, meanwhile, goes for broke with a thrilling rush of electronic noise....full text |

| Oh Montreal - your night clubs, sex clubs and dance-booty-dance parties! Tiga encompasses all of that on his latest album Ciao! As a DJ and producer - Tiga has won acclaim - most notably the Juno Award for Dance Recording of the Year for his 2007 solo debut Sexor. But you may have heard of him because he's remixed tons of legit shit (making it more legit of course), like "Hot in Herre," "Sunglasses at Night," "Madame Hollywood" and oh yah he works with Zombie Nation - "Kernkraft 400" for life yo. Featuring the production savvy of Soulwax (who also worked on Sexor) is an extremely polished and solid release. The first single "Shoes" is a sexy dialogue about shoes and nails and gloves. A crazy 70s looking music video illustrates the track in a vibrant retro way and playfully explores the roles between fabulous women and chauvinist men. Listening to this album on the subway in the morning - possibly hungover from something - "Mind Dimension" feels like squirrels running around your brain - not scary rodent-kind but cartoonish - think Chip n Dale jumping up and down at the base of your skull. The hottest track is "Sex O'Clock" for obvious reasons - make up a dance to it this summer while someone is BBQ-ing - sexual....full text |
