When New Young Pony Club first released ‘Ice Cream’ on Tirk Records in 2005, it felt like they were destined to become Favourite New Band to a lot of people. The 1,000 copies of the seven-inch slice of disco-punk heaven disappeared from indie record stores fast. No surprise really; they were good looking (exuding sexuality, but not stage-managed over-sexualisation), well-dressed, smart, funny, ever so slightly obscene. As soon as the bass on opener Lost A Girl twangs the album into life, there's no mistaking that it is a New Young Pony Club song. And Chaos could be The Bomb Mk 2....full text |

Let’s get straight to business: NYPC have grown up. Not only have they grown up but they’ve self-produced, self-funded and self-released their second offering ‘The Optimist’. Gone are the floor filling anthems of their climatic debut to be replaced by heady synth and bass drives that delve deep into emotional territories so neglected by previous material. The most exciting thing about this new ethos is that the band themselves are in control, which over time they will adapt, create a greater understanding of what they are trying to achieve and produce some stunning masterpieces. The tricky second album phase has been completed and it’s an excellent product. The future’s bright....full text |
