Super Chron Flight Brothers - Cape Verde reviewYou can't just commandeer a Super Chron hovercraft and expect to understand New York's Flight Brothers. So I'll guide you through their latest inspired conceptual labyrinth, Cape Verde. The first thing you must do is clear the area of rap pedestrians who might interrupt. As annoying as it is when chumps yap over Doom and Ghostface, I promise it will only worsen as Billy Woods and Priviledge lead you through their daily television regimen Talk Soup–style, with conceptual piñatas like "B More" and "42nd Street." Your next move is to roast a tampon-sized spliff. Epic cuts like "Double Jeopardy" and "Reggie Miller" can massage a blunted melon through the happy ending, whereas sober minds couldn't likely make much sense of before-and-after riffs like "Kim Jong Illmatic" and Boo Radley references in rap music. Finally and most important: after you become so enamored of soul smackers like "Travailler" and pop political polemics like "No Spin Zone" that you just have to spread the word, try not to be too disappointed when your friends prove too stupid or stubborn to keep quiet and strap in for the ride....full text

Let me start at the top of the list, of ALL the albums that have released, been sent to our e-mail, physical mail, etc., within the past two week, Super Chron’s latest jawn, “Cape Verde” was an album that I was least looking forward to previewing (I mean, just peep the cover art for the album, kinda’ bland, huh?) . Let it be known that Super Chron’s material can be “out there”, think MF Doom on steroids, but you can’t overlook the fact that Brooklyn’s very own, Billy Woods and Priviledge are exceptional lyricists. Super Chron’s well-received debut, ’07′s “Emergency Powers” found Woods and Priviledge sharing microphone duties with the likes of the aforementioned Doom and Cannibal Ox. The duo’s sophomore LP, “Indonesia” initially debuted as a free DL, but became so widespread in the underground that Chron’s label, Backwoodz Studios soon released a double disc for a those die-hards fiendin’ to get their hands on a physical copy. Three years removed from their debut, “Cape Verde” is comprised of guest lyrical appearances from the likes of Vordul Mega, Company Flow’s Bigg Jus as well as indie legend Masai Bey. Produced in it’s entirety by longtime associates Willie Green and Bond, and on the the heels of last year’s free downloads “Indonesia” as well as the “Deleted Scenes”, could “Cape Verde” match the success of it’s predecessors?...full text

Whether it’s Atmosphere’s post-hangover “Sunshine” or the all too obvious “Summertime” by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, some tracks appear tailor made for the summer. These songs are typically filled with laid-back production, which sometimes is heavy on the jazz-tip, and equally mellow rhymes. The latest group to enter this foray is the otherwise mostly abrasive Super Chron Flight Brothers. For “Reggie Miller”, from their upcoming Cape Verde LP, the duo raps about day-to-day life over a smooth beat from none other than Potholes regular Willie Green. It’s going to be a long wait until this album drops on June 22, but this track should hold me (and you) over. I hope.
