My Chemical Romance - The Mad Gear and Missile Kid EP reviewHow is it?

Fun, fast, and fantastic. The Mad Gear and Missile Kid EP clocks in at just under six minutes, but provides a quick injection of musical speed that gets the blood pumping and the body moving. My Chemical Romance created the persona of the titular band as a way to add more depth to the universe they created in Danger Days, but there's no question they infused much of the same creativity found in their full album releases into this short EP.

It opens with the pounding and methodical “F.T.W.W.W.” Embracing a bit of the youthful irreverence that made them popular in the first place, Gerard Way casually screams, “fuck this whole wide world,” throughout most of the chorus. Even with the first track of the EP, it's apparent My Chemical Romance are less worried about pumping out a mainstream hit and more about making music they love. The middle of The Mad Gear and Missile Gear EP is fleshed out by “Mastas of Ravenkroft,” which amps up the speed a bit more with the always impressive guitar work of lead guitarist Ray Toro and deftness of former Bled drummer Mike Pedicone. Filled with outlandish lyrics about aliens and other fantasy tropes, the second track on the EP is far from boring, and does a great job of showing off the individual talents of each band member.

“Black Dragon Fighting Society,” rounds out The Mad Gear and Missile Kid EP as the third and final track. The shortest and fastest of the trio, “Black Dragon Fighting Society” boosts the speed to eleven as the album comes to a close. The percussion hits harder, the guitars squeal louder, and Way fills the mind with images of rock and roll holy men, spreading the good news of good music to all that should lend an ear. As The Mad Gear and Missile Kid EP barrels on towards its conclusion, the songs continuously build and build as the run times get shorter and shorter. My Chemical Romance reminds us that music should, first and foremost, be fun. And I can't see them not having a good time as they put this tiny project together. It radiates through every second....full text

The Mad Gear and Missile Kid is a three track EP released by My Chem that was included in the deluxe edition of their album. The guitar player Frank described it as "It's basically what the Killjoy characters would be listening to as they are driving around in the cars and having shoot outs in the music videos". First off, this EP is really good, I mean really good. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 was because it is so short. The EP finished up just under 6 minutes for the three songs.

The first track "F.T.W.W.W (*** The Whole Wide World) had me excited right after hearing the guitar opening. The songs preceding it follow generally the same musical style. The songs sound very raw and, if this makes sense, rather sleazy. Lyrically the EP is not very deep and rather straight forward. The lyrics are also pretty funny with an example being "Come on, Come on, Kiss my battery". Overall everything from the guitars and lyrics sound very raw and just awesome. It's kind of like a mix between early punk music and just a tad bit of Revenge. The songs are very fun to jam out to, but once again, very short.

Try to find this online or something, I think Youtube has the songs, but this is very good. I am hoping they do a full length with this music style. It's just a fun EP with interesting songs and it's a very nice change of pace....full text

As if My Chemical Romance's Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys weren't already anticipated enough, the band recently upped the ante by unveiling a deluxe "California 2019" edition of the album, one that includes a glorious array of ephemera — a Killjoys ray-gun (with matching mask), a 48-page art book, some "Bad Luck" beads — and one mysterious EP, credited to someone (or something) called "The Mad Gear and Missile Kid."

Eagle-eyed MCR fans probably caught a mention of "Mad Gear" in the "Na Na Na" video, but to date, there have been no clues about his (or her) real identity. So when MTV News sat down with My Chem last week, we asked them if they could reveal just who Mad Gear and Missile Kid really are. And they were more than willing to oblige.

"Well, it's us, but playing as this band 'Mad Gear and Missile Kid' from the [Danger Days] world," MCR guitarist Frank Iero explained. "There's show fliers from that band in the videos. ... It's basically what the Killjoys are listening to in the car as they're having those gun battles."

So including an EP of songs by the fictional band is just another way My Chem have decided to expand the Danger Days story line and immerse their fans in that ever-growing world....full text
