Breathe Carolina - It's Classy, Not Classic reviewLately in the music industry, many bands have sprung up that heavily, and almost exclusively, use electronics in their music. The majority of this music is either very crappy or very generic. Breathe Carolina's music is neither. Formed in 2006, this band quickly gained a fanbase in their home state of Colorado, and eventually, the the country. Before even being signed, the band scored some pretty impressive gigs including a stint at The Bamboozle in East Rutherford, NJ. Last summer they signed to Rise Records, and released their brand of electro-screamo to the world via this debut album.

The album opens with "The Introduction." This is easily the albums slowest piece, and one of the few to use a vocoder. However, the opening synth line is very pretty and when the vocoder-free voice of David Schmitt comes in, the listener falls in love. Though this track is fairly strong, it does get repetitive as the music and lyrics do not change as the song progresses. The ending of "The Introduction" flawlessly segues into the album's second track, "No Vacancy." This track opens up with an uber-catchy dance beat and is quick in introducing the screams of Kyle Evans. The song quickly gets repetitive though, as the vocals and musical dynamic remains the same, and the song ends with the listener wondering why more screams weren't incorporated into a track that had enough potential to be one of the album's best songs.

Track three, "Show Me Yours," starts off quite mundanely, and looks to follow the same follies that the albums earlier tracks suffered. However, the meandering first verse is saved by the amazing way in which the screams and croons play off each other. The slight slowdown in the middle is a high point of the album, giving screamer Kyle Evans the chance to (finally) showcase his yelps and screams for what they are, and the continuation of the song's dance beat sounds refreshed once it ends....full text

Imagine if good ole boys Hellogoodbye managed to go a little bit more dance and add random screams for no apparent reason besides to get the emo kids ***ting there pants, yeah I know that sounds bad. And it ***ing is!
Kyle Even and Devin Schmitt manage to assault the audiences ears with catchy almost trance like beats coupled with over the top girly synth vocals and " harsh vocals ". Why dont I just kill myself so I dont have to listen to this! Sure the songs are catchy , with Classified being my first pick for catchiness. Its over the top pop *** with a simple techno beat underneath stuck in my head but it was the kind of stuck in your head that makes you go insane and slightly crazy. Go Barack Obama!!!!!!!
These guys happen to *** out cliches left and center mainly starting with an "Introduction" to set the whole thing off . Not saying that introductions are bad , its just that when its Breathe Carolina its not bad its horrendous! With the light xylophone tapping that would normally introduce some kids show on Fox , it starts off sticky and sweet but manages to be about the same as all the other songs on this record except it skips the catchiness and just becomes dull and boring.
One major complaint on this cd is that the beats become way too repetetive and the vocals rarely ever change, thats probably because they edit the hell out of them but what I can I say , I probably would have made *** like this if I was mentally retarded. Another thing I noticed is that the screams just dont work! Unlike the talented Genghis Tron who actually manage to meld screaming and dancish beats , these guys bounce between the almost Kanye West-ish sweet syrupy vocals and the tough emo kid growls. It just doesn't fit together guys. Also the lyrics happen to be all about partying and sex with about as much lyrical depth as the average American Idol single....full text

There is no band like Breathe Carolina. The mixture of techno and post-hardcore brings everything together. I bought this album because i found out about them on myspace and instantly fell in love with them. Its the best album! Every song is special in its own way. Some is about partying all night, but some is heart felt and slow. It brings out your inner self and craving for more Breathe Carolina. In example, The song Diamonds is one of the slower songs. It reaches deep into you and you will find the meaning of the song. Songs like Thats Classy has the more party feel. It makes you want to jump and go crazy! All the songs have a wonderful heavy bass and the tunes are original. No matter what Breathe Carolina sings, It will always sound good. Breathe Carolina is a band that will steal your heart and will never let go. In my opinion, it should be called Its Classic, Not Classy. These songs will always be a classic for years to come. Its Classy, Not Classic By Breathe Carolina will beat all the other music you listen to. It really is the most beautiful music I ever listened to....full text
