We Are The Ocean - Go Now and Live reviewThere are curveballs and then there are curveballs. We Are The Ocean fans should gear themselves up to catch this one, because ‘Go Now And Live’ comes in thick, fast and as a complete sonic surprise. Where ‘Cutting Our Teeth’ did exactly as it described, ‘Go Now And Live’ displays a level of progression since then that many bands would take the best part of a decade to achieve. The most obvious shift in focus – and it’s apparent from the opener – is that ‘dirty’ vocalist Dan Brown spends the majority of his time actually singing here. If he was an angry teenager throwing his toys out of the pram on ‘Cutting Your Teeth’, here he is a man full of confidence and level-headedness, delivering his lines in such a manner that give this album an almost Southern American feel, all the while complimenting Liam Cromby’s ‘clean’ vocals perfectly. Pete Miles (The King Blues, Canterbury) has worked wonders at honing these songs to sound as big and as powerful as they can and it’s a record that truly flows, despite its variation. The pace fluctuates from the epic and spacious (‘What It Feels Like’), to the raucous and laddish (‘Godspeed’) but at no time does ‘Go Now And Live’ feel disjointed. It’s a consistently satisfying rock experience....full text

We Are The Ocean have announced details of their new album ‘Go Now And Live’. The second album from the Essex quintet will be released 25th April on Hassle Records (Cancer Bats, Alkaline Trio,Trash Talk).

The album is a big shift in direction from their debut ‘Cutting Our Teeth’ and marks a new era for We Are The Ocean. The record opens up with the thunderous track ‘Trouble is Temporary, Time is Tonic’ which has an opening line that’s no doubt ready to make the hairs on the back of your next stand up on end. The Radio 1 daytime, playlisted single ‘What It Feels Like’ follows and from here on in you know this record is ready to be one the classics of the year!

Dan, vocalist, from the band exclaims that “This album shows a huge progression from Cutting Our Teeth and we're extremely pleased with how it turned out. We wanted to challenge ourselves and write songs in a way that we'd never written before and try things that would never have worked on the first album”.

At the production helm of ‘Go Now And Live’ is Peter Miles (The King Blues, Futures), who’s current track record has been sensational in delivering some of the most exciting British rock records of the past couple of years.

2011 is already shaping up to be a huge one for the band with their single ‘What It Feels Like’ being added to the Radio 1 daytime playlist and being championed by Zane Lowe as Single of the Week....full text

When they burst onto the scene in 2007 We Are the Ocean may have had their detractors; but with Go Now and Live, the Essex post-hardcore quintet have proven themselves as more than just an Alexisonfire tribute act.

While the naysayers will point to Liam Cromby’s velvety tones as still aping those of Dallas Green and Dan Brown’s harsh shouts as the equivalent of George Pettit’s balancer, and there is no disputing that the Canadians are still certainly a massive influence musically. But as the distinction between their voices become less stark and musically WATO push towards a straighter rock sound, there is far less to complain about.

Opening track Trouble Is Temporary, Time Is Tonic is a brilliant early showcase for both vocalists – Cromby opens the verse with a faltering wail before Brown trades off with a macho retort. It’s clearly the lush contributions of the former that carry this album – and indeed this band – above the current crop of British talent, but without the gruff ripostes from his counterpart, WATO’s music would be just too syrupy sweet. Take The Waiting Room for instance, where they sing simultaneously, adding extra layers and dimensions to the already urgent and driving emo rock....full text
