Written evidence suggests that the band surfaced on the icy shores of the third coast, but if this aural deposition has anything to say about origins, the group commuted to their practice space on some kind of futuristic, cyborg glitter-dragon, singer Josh Chicoine belting forth sans-abandon with vocals absurdly indebted to the swagger of a post-electric Marc Bolan, over beds of trebled distortion, well placed feedback squeals, and the tendency toward funk, the second track, “Shawna Dupree” serving up the best white boy Prince knockoff this side of Beck’s Midnite Vultures, and perhaps Spoon’s bizarrely wonderful stab at the genre, “I Turn My Camera On,” from last year’s Gimme Fiction....full text
