When indie goes pop it rarely does it with bang. Most attempts sound like fireworks that have spent far too much time wafting in PBR and self-driven insecurities to truly explode. It's usually more of a poof than a pop. But when indie pop finds a way to grasp the more stripped-down lo-fi elements of pop music and incorporate forward thinking, bands such as Stereolab and Spoon are born....full text |

| Young Mr Vek emerged blinking into the spotlight last year, brandishing a record he had cobbled together in his dad's garage. His sound is at once electronic and punky, though it's able to accommodate the joyous, rumpling organ of C-C (You Set the Fire in Me), and puts one in mind of the Fall as readily as Talking Heads. | Tom Vek cheerfully admits that he's a bit of a geek. As his intriguing debut album shows, however, the 23-year-old Londoner is also a very talented geek. Recorded single-handedly in his dad's garage, We Have Sound is a sublime concoction of musical ingredients that manages to recycle some of the best art-rock bands of the last two decades: Talking Heads, the Fall and even Pavement.
