 Last year, Richard D. James came out of what often seems as a semi-retirement to offer the most talked-about electronic records of the year. His first proper new material since 2001’s Drukqs, the Analord series of EPs was made up of forty-one tracks spread over eleven volumes, only made available on vinyl and all collected in a specially commissioned binder, the lot released on Rephlex, the imprint he co-founded some thirteen years ago with Grant Wilson-Claridge....full text |

Aphex Twin zealots will have gorged already on every squelch and bleep of this compilation, given that its ten tracks were issued as a series of singles last year. Others will be pleasantly surprised by Richard James’s first album since the impenetrable Drukqs from 2001. Gone are the drill ‘n’ bass cacophonies; in their place a stream of darkly glittering retro electronica.

| Wethinks the lady doth protest too much. All the blurb surrounding 'Chosen Lords' is at pains to stress that this is the first new material by canny noise bastard Richard D. James since his last album proper, 'Drukqs' in 2001. Patent lies, of course - this is merely a collection that unites parts of the limited edition series of 12" that Rephlex released under the Analord moniker in 2005....full text |
